Quick summary: If your new Sunday mattress looks smaller at first, don’t worry. It’s just compressed foam. Unzip the cover, let it breathe for 2–3 days, and it’ll expand fully.

Just received your mattress and it looks a bit smaller than expected? No need to stress—this is completely normal and temporary.

Why your mattress might look compressed

Foam is naturally compressible. During packaging, storage, and transit, your mattress may get slightly compressed, especially at the edges. As a result, it might look shorter or narrower when you first unbox it. But this doesn’t affect the quality, comfort, or longevity of the mattress.

Here’s what to do (and not do)

  • Unzip the outer cover of the mattress.
  • Gently lift or wiggle the edges of the mattress to loosen up any compacted corners.
  • Leave the zipper open for 2–3 days so the foam has space to breathe and expand.
  • Continue using the mattress as usual—it’s completely fine to sleep on it during this period.

Important: Avoid closing the zipper immediately. Giving the foam space helps it regain its intended shape more easily.
