What is LGA Certification?

LGA Certification is issued by TÜV Rheinland AG, a globally respected authority on product safety and quality, based in Cologne, Germany. This certification tests mattresses against the DIN EN 1957 standard, which assesses functional performance for home use.

What Does the Test Involve?

The mattress is subjected to a mechanical test that applies 1,400 Newtons of force—about 150 kg—over 60,000 repeated strokes. The goal is to simulate many years of daily use in a typical home setting. This is not a marketing label—it’s a rigorous, engineering-based evaluation.

How is the Mattress Scored?

The LGA test evaluates the mattress on four parameters:

  • Change in mattress height
  • Change in firmness after 30,000 strokes
  • Change in firmness after the full test
  • Change in resilience (bounce-back quality)

Each category is scored out of 25, for a total of 100. Here’s how the results are interpreted:

  • 50+: Meets basic quality standards
  • 70+: Earns the increased quality badge
  • 80+: Certified for enhanced quality
