Research shows, air pollution affects the quality of sleep as bad breathing disrupts the natural rhythm. When the air is polluted there is an upshot in sleep apnea cases as also breathing trouble and air pollution have both been linked to increased risk for cardiovascular disease. With glaring risks, it is pertinent we take some precautions.
Here are few ways you could beat the pollution and get good sleep-
1) Ensure you have the right mattress and pillow, made of natural material. Remember, if your mattress or pillow too old, it could be full of pollen or mites. Use allergen-proof bedding and pillowcases. Consider buying machine washable bedding. Wash pillows, sheets and comforters weekly. This could help ease the burden.
2) Get an air purifier. A good air purifier will eliminate contaminated particles and dreaded airborne infections making the air far cleaner and healthier to breathe.
3) Place plants that filter toxins in your house. The best plants to filter toxins from the air are Peace Lily which prefers moderate sunlight, Lady Palm or Broadleaf Lady Palm which is adaptable but prefers bright, indirect light. . Another houseplant which helps purify the air is English Ivy - often called Common Ivy or European Ivy.
4) Do steam inhalation just before bed time to feel lighter. The ailments of the upper respiratory tract can be satisfactorily healed by steam inhalation. Combined with specific herbs or oils, an inhalation can relieve you of your congestion. You can place a tea bag or eucalyptus oil into the boiling water for best results.
