Should You Share Your Bed with Your Dog?
If your dog is healthy, clean and doesn’t wake you, sharing the bed is fine for most people. Protect the mattress first: a waterproof Mattress Protector stops fur, paws and accidents from reaching it, and a spare Mattress Zipper Cover means you can always wash one.
The good side
Many people feel calmer and safer with their dog close by. If you live alone, a dog at your feet can make the night feel less empty.
The other side
- Light sleepers wake up. Dogs move, scratch and get up at night.
- Allergies. Fur and dander collect in bedding. If you sneeze at night, keep the dog off the bed.
- Fleas and ticks. Keep your dog’s checks and treatments up to date.
- Dirt and accidents end up in the mattress if nothing is between them.
Protect the mattress
- Mattress ProtectorWaterproof under the cotton. Fits like a fitted sheet and covers the sides too.
- A spare zipper coverZip one off to wash, zip the clean one on.
- Wash every weekProtector at 40°C, mild detergent, no bleach. Air dry.
- A spot of its ownA dog bed beside yours, for nights you want the bed to yourself.
Pet damage isn’t covered by the mattress warranty, and spare zipper covers aren’t covered by the trial or the warranty. A protector is the cheapest insurance.
Damp season makes this harder: see mattress care in the monsoon, and every layer that protects a Sunday bed.
Questions people ask
Is it bad to let my dog sleep in my bed?
Not for most healthy people with a healthy dog. Skip it if you have allergies, sleep very lightly, or your dog has fleas or is unwell.
Will dog fur damage my mattress?
Fur itself won’t, but dirt, claws and accidents can. A protector keeps them off the mattress.
Does the warranty cover pet damage?
No. The mattress warranty covers sagging and uneven softening only.
