With festivities in the air, it is time to ensure you are at your shining best. Let the last leg of the year reflect the jubilant spirit as you stride into it with your best foot forward or should we say your most energetic self.

Here are 5 ways to sleep and shine –

1) Stock up on sleep before a party spree: Ensure you are not lagging behind on sleep while entering the party season. You don’t want to add up to the sleep debt and end up looking hammered in the most social time of the year. Wake up naturally without an alarm.

2) Hydrate yourself: We are all too familiar with the effects of alcohol and greasy treats on our system. Balance it out by drinking lots of water and consuming fresh salads and fruits. Eat a light meal or small meals if you know you’ll be feasting at night. Remember there are healthy options even at a party so try and choose the ones that keep you glowing. You may want to keep a watch of your alcohol and sugar intake, remember it all does pile up.

3) Exercise: Find time for your work out, even if your rise time is stretched forward; find a window period to work out even if in the confines of your home. Refer to a youtube home video such as Burn20 or Fitness Blender and get cracking. Stay motivated; don’t let the gluttony get you slothful, instead, stay committed to your fitness activities. If weather and air allow going for a half an hour jog to the closest park, breath in the fresh air, flex your body and stay feeling good.

4) Take a nap: Considering you have to continue with work despite the late nights, it is advisable you find time for a nap even if after returning from office. A short nap will reboot you to face another evening without looking party pooped. Any amount of sleep helps clear chemicals from the brain that contribute to sleepiness, including adenosine. When you are feeling fresh and well-slept your chances of eating wrong are also that much less.

5) Stay stress-free: Don’t let the demands of the festive season take a toll on you. Pamper yourself with good sleep, a possible facial and any relaxing unwinding ritual that would help you stay calm and happy. After all the whole idea of meeting people and ringing in the festive season is to retain the good cheer, love, and happiness that is so central to our well being. Good food and gifting are only a part of the bigger purpose. So keep that in mind, stay smiling and make the most of the season!
